It is ubiquitously expressed., NADPH:quinone oxidoreductase (NQO1) is an FAD containing electron reductase that regulates the detoxification of quinones obtained from the phenolic metabolites of benzene. It is a homodimeric protein that can bind either of the reducing cofactors; NADPH or NADH . NQO1 regulates chemoprotection, neuroprotection, antitumor quinones and antioxidative defense mechanisms . NQO1 may be overexpressed in breast, colon, pulmonary and hepatic tumors.
