Activin proteins have a wide range of biological activities, including mesoderm induction, neural cell differentiation, bone remodeling, hematopoiesis and roles in reproductive physiology. The biological activities of Activin A can be neutralized by inhibins and by the diffusible TGF-beta antagonist, follistatin.
