Descrição detalhada : Paired mesoderm homeobox protein 2A (PHOX2A), also known as ARIX1 homeodomain protein (ARIX) and Paired-like homeobox 2A (PMX2A), along with the closely related PHOX2B, is a paired-homeodomain transcription factor that maintains the noradrenergic phenotype during embryogenesis. PHOX2 proteins help regulate endogenous hydroxylases in neural crest cells and aid in sympathetic neuron generation. PHOX2A controls only the differentiation of the main noradrenergic center of the human brain, while PHOX2B is required for the differentiation of all central and nonperipheral noradrenergic centers. PHOX2A may be involved in regulating specific expression of catecholamine biosynthetic genes. PHOX2A is linked to congenital fibrosis of extraocular muscles type 2 (CFEOM2). PHOX2 regulation may have therapeutic applications for aging or degenerative noradrenergic neuron disorders.
