Descrição detalhada : TRPM4, also known as Calcium-activated non-selective cation channel 1, Long transient receptor potential channel 4, Melastatin-4 or LTrpC4, and encoded by the gene TRPM4/LTRPC4, is a calcium activated non-selective ion channel for Na+, K+, Cs+ and Li+ ions. TRPM4 plays a central role in membrane depolarization in cardiomyocytes, cortical and dorsal root neurons, endocrine cells, kidney epithelial cells and even hair cells. Additionally, TRPM4 participates in T-cell activation, IL-2 production, blood vessel constriction, insulin secretion and even cell proliferation in various cell types through the up regulation of the beta catenin signaling pathway. TRPM4 is localized to the cell membrane and golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum. TRPM4 is widely expressed. Defects in TRPM4 may be associated with progressive familial heart block disorder which can be a fatal though unpredictable syndrome.
