HI also participates as a reducing agent for the conversion of various polyarene quinones, hydroquinones and phenols to the corresponding aromatic hydrocarbons., Hydriodic acid is hydrogen iodide gas dissolved in water. It is a strong acid generally used as a reducing agent.
