It is an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor causing hyperexcitation and impeding the functioning of the nervous system. Tetrachlorvinphos is used for protection against Diptera in fruit and Lepidoptera in fruit, cotton, maize, rice, tobacco, and vegetables; control of Muscidae in dairies and livestock barns; control of ectoparasites in poultry; control of insects in stored products and insects that damage forests and pastures. According to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2076/2002 of 20th November 2002, tetrachlorvinphos is not approved for use in the European Union (EU) as a plant protection agent, following the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009.
