Descrição detalhada : Protein bicaudal C homolog 1 (UniProt Q9H694; also known as Bic-C) is encoded by the BICC1 (also known as CYSRD) gene (Gene ID 80114) in human. Drosophila bicaudal C and its mammalian homologs are RNA-binding proteins involved in symmetric distribution and localized translation of mRNAs of many proteins in a wide range of cells and tissues. RNA binding of Bic-C is mediated by N-terminal KH domains (a.a. 132-199 & 284-348), whereas a C-terminal sterile alpha motif (SAM; a.a. 873-936) self-polymerizes and localizes Bic-C at cytoplasmic foci where silencing of bound mRNAs takes place. Defective polymerization results in decreased Bic-C stability and thereby attenuates inhibition of Dishevelled-2 of Wnt/beta-catenin pathway. Loss of BICC1 provokes renal and pancreatic cysts as well as ectopic Wnt/beta-catenin signaling during visceral left-right patterning due to defective silencing of Bic-C target mRNAs, including adenylate cyclase 6 (AC6).
