Descrição detalhada : Epithelial Call Adhesion Molecule (EpCAM, CD326) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of approximately 40 kDa. EpCAM was initially identified as a tumor associated marker having high expression in quickly proliferating epithelial tumors. As such, EpCAM has been of significant interest as a means for tumor diagnosis and therapy. EpCAM is also expressed in normal epithelial cells, but in comparatively lower levels. Preliminary studies limited EpCAM's function to cell-cell adhesion; however more recent studies indicate it to be involved in diverse processes that include cell migration, cell signaling, differentiation and proliferation.
