Descrição detalhada : ? -aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor is the multifunctional, pentameric membrane proteins that operate GABA-gated chloride channels. It acts as major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the adult mammalian brain. It is the members of the neurotransmitter ligand-gated ion channels which plays various functions in the central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system, and in some nonneuronal tissues. At least four types of subunits (?, ?, ? and ?) of GABA have been identified. Generally it contains one type of ? and ? subunit, and a single ? polypeptide in a ratio of 2:2:1.
