Descrição detalhada : mgbp-2/hGBP-1, or also known as Interferon-induced guanylate-binding protein 1, GTP-binding protein 1 (GBP-1/HuGBP-1), or Guanine nucleotide-binding protein 1, and encoded by the gene GBP1, is another enzyme important in innate defense. Among its functions, this enzyme hydrolyzes GTP to GMP and appears to promote oxidative killing and deliver antimicrobial peptides to autophagolysosomes, thus providing broad host protection against different pathogen classes. mgbp-2/hGBP-1 is localized to the cytoplasm but is also secreted in endothelial cells and localizes to the cytoplasmic side of the Golgi apparatus in expressing most cells. Interestingly, mgbp-2/hGBP-1is secreted by the endothelial cells in the CNS upon bacterial challenge even when not induced by gamma interferon. The enzyme is also induced by TNF-alpha and IL-1beta expression by immune cells and is considered a proinflammatory response factor.
