Descrição detalhada : Neuroligin-4, X-linked (UniProt: Q8N0W4; also known as Neuroligin X, HNLX) is encoded by the NLGN4X (also known as KIAA1260, NLGN4, UNQ365/PRO701) gene (Gene ID: 57502) in human. NLGN4X is a single-pass type I membrane, homodimeric, glycoprotein that is synthesized with a signal peptide (aa 1-41), which is subsequently cleaved off to produce the mature form that contains an extracellular domain (aa 42-676) a transmembrane domain (aa 677-697), and a cytoplasmic domain (aa 698-816). It is predominantly expressed in the heart tissue. It is also expressed at lower levels in the liver, skeletal muscle, pancreas, and brain. It is a putative neuronal cell surface protein that is involved in cell-cell-interactions. In human, NLGN4X is localized at excitatory synapses, whereas in mouse NLGN4-like is localized at glycinergic synapses. NLGN4X can be phosphorylated by protein kinase C that enhances excitatory synapses. Mutations in NLGN4X gene have been linked to X-linked Asperger syndrome and Autism. (Ref.: Nguyen, TA., et al.
