Descrição detalhada : Pericentrin binds to calmodulin and is expressed in the centrosome that serves as a multifunctional scaffold for anchoring proteins and protein complexes. Evidence suggests that pericentrin plays a role in microtubule nucleation and spindle organization. Recent studies show pericentrin plays a role in Majewski/micorcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism type II (MOPDII) and Seckel Syndrome. Recent use in network modeling indicates a direct link between breast cancer susceptibility to centrosome defects. Pericentrin is a potential marker for centrosome defects in cancer and cancer progression, as centrosomal abonormalities in solid tumors are accompanied by increased pericentrin levels and defects in pericentrin organization.
