Descrição detalhada : BRCA2 (Breast Cancer Type 2 susceptibility protein) is a tumor suppressor protein encoded by the BRCA2 gene.The protein encoded by this gene plays a direct role in error-free double-strand break repair and homologous recombination. BRCA2 shares similarities with the tumor suppressor gene BRCA1. Inherited mutations in BRCA2 as well as BRCA1 are associated with an increased risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer. Although the structures of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are very different, some functions are similar. The proteins made by both genes are essential for repairing damaged DNA and interact with the protein produced by the RAD51 gene. Together these three proteins play a role in maintaining the stability of the human genome and prevent dangerous gene rearrangements that can lead to the development of cancer.
