It is secreted by B cells and is found in blood and extracellular fluids. Maternal IgG is transferred to fetus through the placenta that is vital for immune defense of the neonate against infections., Immunoglobulins have two heavy chains and two light chains connected by disulfide bond. It is a glycoprotein which mainly helps in immune defense. IgG is a major class of immunoglobulin. Rat has five immunoglobulin classes- IgM, IgG, IgA, IgD and IgGE. IgG has four subclasses- IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b and IgG2c.
