Descrição detalhada : Transmembrane and immunoglobulin domain-containing protein 1 (UniProt Q6UXZ0) is encoded by the TMIGD1 (also known as TMIGD) gene (ORF UNQ9372/PRO34164; Gene ID 388364) in human. TMIGD1 protein is an adhesion molecule expressed in renal tubular epithelial cells and is highly conserved between human and murine species. TMIGD1 regulates renal epithelial cell trans-epithelial electric resistance, permeability, migration and cell morphology, and protects renal epithelial cells from oxidative stress and nutrient deprivation-induced injury. Hydrogen peroxide is shown to induce TMIGD1 ubiquitination and degradation. In addition, TMIGD1 expression is downregulated in mouse acute kidney injury (AKI) and in deoxy-corticosterone acetate (DOCA) and sodium chloride (DOCA-salt)-induced chronic hypertensive kidney disease models. TMIGD1 is produced with a signal peptide sequence (a.a. 1-29), the removal of which yields the mature single-transmembrane (a.a. 221-241) protein with a large extracellular region (a.a. 30-220) and a short cytoplasmic tail (a.a. 242-262). The extracellular region contains two C2-type Ig-like domains (a.a. 30-114 & 122-207) that mediate TMIGD1 dimerization.
