Descrição detalhada : The Werner's syndrome helicase (RecQ-like type 3; RecQ3; Exonuclease WRN) is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear protein belonging to the RecQ family. It functions as a helicase and exonuclease enzyme, and plays a crucial role in the formation of DNA replication centers. This protein is also involved in DNA repair and recombination, and may be involved in transcriptional events mediated by RNA polymerase II. It is regulated by phosphorylation and is targeted by the DNA-dependent protein kinase enzyme. Disrupted expression of the gene encoding the Werner's syndrome helicase protein often results in the production of truncated Werner's syndrome helicase proteins. Over 50 gene mutations may contribute to this effect-and lead to the development of Werner syndrome, a condition characterized by accelerated aging and early onset of age-related conditions such as cancer, atherosclerosis, and osteoporosis.
