Descrição detalhada : Biochemical Esculin ID Membranes are substrate-carrying membranes used for rapid identification and differentiation of Group D Streptococci through characteristic color reactions. The membranes contain chromogenic substrates, which serve as the basis for microbe differentiation by color. The group D Streptococci are differentiated from non-group D Streptococci by the detection of esculin hydrolysis. Group D Streptococci hydrolyze the esculin to esculetin and dextrose. Esculetin reacts with an iron salt such as ferric citrate to form a blackish-brown colored complex. The reaction runs on a membrane that gets into contact with colony material.
