It is a broad spectrum and non-systemic insecticide, that gets activated by contact and ingestion. Buprofezin inhibits molting in insect larvae and nymphs, subsequently leading to their death. It is used against beetles, leafhoppers, plant hoppers, and whiteflies among other insects for a variety of crops, vegetables, and fruits. Buprofezin is approved for use in the European Union as a plant protection agent in the market according to the Commission Directive 2011/6/EU of 20th January 2011 repealing the Council Directive 91/414/EEC. The maximum residue level (MRL) allowed for the presence of buprofezin in plant- and animal-based products is 0.01 mg/kg as per the EU Reg 2019/91.Buprofezin has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Program for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
