Descrição detalhada : Ceramides comprise sphingoid base attached to fatty acyl chain by an amide bond. They vary in length, saturation and hydroxylation of the fatty acid chain and sphingoid base. Ceramides are synthesized by sphingomyelinase in salvage and de novo synthesis pathway. In brain, ceramide synthases mediate the synthesis of ceramides.
