Corn Meal Agar

Descrição detalhada : Corn Meal Agar is a general-purpose medium suitable for the cultivation of fungi, studying mycelium or pseudo mycelium formation, and the study of Candida species for chlamydospore production. Corn meal infusion from maize is rich in carbon and amino acid sources, along with many other trace elements supporting the growth of fungi. The medium can be modified by adding polysorbate 80 to stimulate the formation of chlamydospores in Candida albicans, Candida stellatoides, and Candida tropicalis. Polysorbate 80 is a mixture of oleic esters, which activates the production of chlamydospores by Candida species. Some Candida species lose their ability to form chlamydospores by repeated subculturing. The addition of dextrose promotes a luxuriant growth of some fungi. Dextrose (2 g/L) in the medium is suitable for the cultivation of commonly occurring phyto pathological fungi. It also enhances the chromogenesis of some species of Trichophyton such as Trichophyton rubrum. Corn Meal Agar with dextrose should not be used for chlamydospores production.
