A plasma glycoprotein synthesized and secreted by hepatic parenchymal cells. Fibrinogen, also known as Coagulation Factor I, is an acute-phase plasma protein found at a concentration of about 300 mg/100 ml. Conversion of soluble fibrinogen to the insoluble clot-forming fibrin is the terminal stage of blood clotting. Clinically, fibrinogen is elevated in pregnancy, after surgical trauma, and myocardial infarction, and is decreased in cases of liver cirrhosis and serum hepatitis., Native fibrinogen from bovine plasma.
