It is widely used for its insecticidal and molluscicidal activity against snails, rice insects, and also on fruit crops for its bird repelling nature.As per the commission implementing regulation (EU) 2019/1606 of 27th September 2019, methiocarb (expressed as a sum of methiocarb, methiocarb sulfone, and methiocarb sulfoxide) is not approved for use in the European Union. A maximum residue limit (MRLs) of 0.01 to 0.1 mg/kg has been set for the presence of methiocarb in various products of plant and animal origin as per Reg (EU) 2021/155. Methiocarb is to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
