It gets activated by contact and ingestion, modulating the voltage-gated sodium channels and causing hyperexcitation. It also exhibits endocrine-disrupting behavior by means of displaying both estrogenic and antiandrogenic activities.According to the Commission Regulation (EC) No 2076/2002 of 20th November 2002, methoxychlor is not approved for use in the European Union (EU) as a plant protection agent, following the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009. But a default maximum residue limit of 0.01-0.1 mg/kg is applicable for its presence in the products of plant and animal origin as per the EU Reg. 149/2008.
