Descrição detalhada : Mueller Hinton Agar is specially designed for antibiotic susceptibility testing using the disc diffusion method (Kirby Bauer method). It has been recommended by the CLSI as the ideal medium for antibiotic susceptibility testing for the following reasons:. It shows good reproducibility from batch to batch . It is low in certain inhibitors like trimethoprim, sulfonamide and tetracycline. It supports the growth of both fastidious and non-fastidious bacterial pathogens. The starch in the media absorbs toxins thus preventing them from interfering with the antibiotics . It is a loose agar and therefore facilitates better diffusion of antibiotics
