(NGFB) gene is mapped to human chromosome 1p13.2., HumanKine NGF-beta is expressed in human 293 cells as a non-glycosylated, non-disulfide bonded 13 kDa homodimer. NGF-beta belongs to the nerve growth factor protein superfamily. It is a key growth factor in target-mediated regulation of peripheral innervation. During development, NGF-beta regulates nerve cell death, synaptic connectivity, fiber guidance, and dendritic morphology. The presence of NGF-beta in immune cells and endocrine cells as well as in the CNS limbic areas suggests that it may function as an intracellular messenger to regulate the body's response to stress.
