Tau is a family of neuronal microtubule-associated proteins. Tau, a phosphoprotein is considered as an important microtubule associated protein (MAP) of a mature neuron. The 2N4R tau consists of 441 amino acids (tau441) and is considered as the largest size human brain tau. In human brain, tau is present in six molecular isoforms., The gene microtubule associated protein tau (MAPT) is localized on human chromosome 17q21.3. It is expressed in neurons, more specifically in axons.
