It inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase enzyme and prevents the hydrolysis of acetylcholine to choline and acetic acid.On application, benfuracarb is rapidly converted to its main metabolite carbofuran. Therefore, benfuracarb is reported as carbofuran, that includes the sum of carbofuran (inclusive of carbofuran originating from carbosulfan, benfuracarb or furathiocarb) and 3-OH carbofuran. Carbofuran is not allowed for use in European Union and a default maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.01 mg/kg and 0.02 mg/kg is set for its presence in frozen/fresh fruits and tree nuts respectively according to the Regulation (EC) no. 2015/399.
