It is a non-systemic fungicide that acts as an ergosterol biosynthesis inhibitor by targeting the activity of C14-demethylase and preventing the demethylation of sterol. The approval for the use of bitertanol within European Union (EU) member states was withdrawn by means of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 767/2013. But a default maximum residue limit of 0.01 mg/kg is applicable for the presence of bitertanol in plant protection products according to the Regulation (EC) No 396/200.
