This systemic fungicide acts by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis and is used as a seed treatment to control powdery mildew in spring barley and wheat. Ethirimol is not approved for use in European Union (EU) as per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. But a default maximum residue level (MRLs) from 0.01 mg/kg to 2 mg/kg is applied for products of plant and animal origin, according to Regulation (EU) 2021/1531.Ethirimol has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
