It is a sodium channel antagonist and blocks the voltage-dependent sodium channels in the neurons thereby impairing the nervous function and feeding, causing paralysis and death of the insect. Absorbed by ingestion and contact, it is used against sucking insects, mainly lepidopterans pests on a wide variety of crops.As per the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/EEC, indoxacarb is approved for use as a plant protection agent in the European Union. The Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/845 of 27th May 2015 sets a maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.02 mg/kg in fresh/frozen fruits and tree nuts for indoxacarb (measured as a sum of indoxacarb and its R enantiomer). Indoxacarb has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
