It is a widely used acetylalanine fungicide.As per the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/EEC, metalaxyl-M is approved for use as a plant protection agent in the European Union. The Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/617 of 5th May 2020 renewed the approval of use for metalaxyl-M in products of plant origin until 31st May 2035. The Reg. (EU) 2017/1164 sets a maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.7 mg/kg and 0.01 mg/kg in fresh/frozen fruits and tree nuts respectively for metalaxyl including other mixtures of constituent isomers including metalaxyl-M (sum of isomers). Metalaxyl-M has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
