This selective herbicide is absorbed by roots and leaves and inhibits the electron transport in photosystem II (PS II) by binding to the D1 protein in the thylakoid membrane. Isoproturon has been detected worldwide in soil, groundwater, surface water, or even in drinking water, exceeding the threshold value of 0.1 ?μg?L−1, as a result, the European Union (EU) decided to ban its use in 2016. The EU has classified it as a priority micro-pollutant and has regulated its maximum residue level (MRL) at 0.3? μg?L−1 for inland surface waters.
