It is useful in a number of biochemical processes like production of other amino acids, glucose, nucleotides, protein, and glutathione. It may also be used as a supplement to increase the intestinal villous height, maintain mucosal integrity and stimulate gut mucosal cellular proliferation. It may also find applications in the treatment of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, since it has the tendency to suppress gut and oral-toxic side effects.
