It is a cofactor for more than 300 enzymes and is known to regulate physiological functions like blood pressure, muscle contraction, and neuromuscular conduction. It can be used in the preparation of many biomaterials with biomedical applications. Magnesium is widely used in the organic synthesis as an organomagnesium compound viz Grignard reagent.
