An organophosphate, it covalently and irreversibly reacts with the acetylcholine binding site and blocks the hydrolysis of acetylcholine, resulting in hyperexcitation. Its route of action includes both ingestion and contact. Triazophos is used against soil insects and mites such as aphids, thrips, midges, beetles, Lepidoptera larvae, cutworms, and spider mites in ornamentals, cotton, rice, maize, soybeans, oil palms, olives, and coffee.As per Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/EEC, triazophos is not approved for use in the European Union as a plant protection agent. Maximum residue limits (MRLs) applied for the presence of triazophos in food products across different countries lie in the range of 0.01 to 0.2 mg/kg.Triazophos has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
