It is used in various crops to control many annual types of grass and broad-leaved weeds. It is a commercially available herbicide that has been used extensively on soybeans, cotton crops, and some ornamental plants. As per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/EEC, trifluralin is not approved for use in the European Union. A maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.01 mg/kg is applicable for the presence of trifluralin in fresh/frozen fruits, and tree nuts, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2015/552.
